Reedville, VA

October 18, 2012 Thursday

It was a quiet and peaceful anchorage in Sandy Point.  We woke to a beautiful morning, with something we have not heard in a while....birds singing, Mocking Birds!  This was an uplifting day, it felt like spring.  It dawned on us that we are actually getting "South".  Our friend Gale reminded us that we are now below the Mason Dixon Line.  People we talk with have the distinct Southern Drawl.
There was a small craft advisory forecast for today, so we stayed put.  We called Tutty and Muriel on S/V "Mistress" to plan a dinghy adventure.  It turned out to be a little longer than we thought to dingy to Cockrell Creek to the marinas there.  The trip included a little bit of chop to cross the Great Wicomico River and dinghy motor problems. It turned out that some of the gas in the motor had evaporated since we last used it, so we filled it up in the middle of the River bouncing around.  There was a huge eagle nest occupied by both male and female eagles as we rounded into the creek.  We arrived at Reedsville Marina and no one was there.  An encounter with the  Sheriff gave us the lay of the land...basically there is nothing here.  So we walk d a bit up the road and bumped into "John" on his bike who offered to take us to the only "convenience" store within many miles.  John rode his bike home and came back with his car to get us around.  We dinghyed over to Fairport Marina, had lunch and got some gas.  It seems it was a wise decision to have decided to anchor in Sandy Point.  Friends of ours had run aground in Cockrell Creek  a few days before and as we left we saw another sailboat aground, we offered what little help we could.  It was high tide and it was looking like "Tow Boat Us" was his only option left.
Tutty informed us that we had "grass" growing on our port waterline...that was a big mistake!  There was no way Suzanne was going to let that be.  So "Chassuer" had her waterline scrubbed clean and pretty again.
There is a good forecast for us tomorrow, if it holds up we will be moving on to Deltaville, VA.
