First Days in NYC

September 11-14, 2012 Tuesday - Thursday

Tuesday
Our first day visit to NYC was "9/11".  The city was saturated with police, an unimaginable sight to see.  Every corner of the city had 6-8 police standing on it.  The memorial ceremonies were still going on when we got to town but we could not get close.  We rushed to buy tickets for a Broadway play, had lunch at "Seaport", then took the subway to Times Square.  Suzanne had an exciting encounter with "The Naked Cowboy".  He stands in the middle of Times Square, naked (almost), plays the guitar and poses with bystanders.  He took Suzanne by surprise to say the least....up she went.
We walked all over until we dropped.  That night the "Tribute of Lights" were on in memory of 9/11, an eerie but beautiful sight.
Wednesday
We had tickets to a Broadway Show matinee Wednesday.  We had to take the subway again.  In the morning there was a stabbing on the subway, 7 victims.  We had trepidation boarding the subway, but security was high, and we already purchased the tickets for "Newsies". The Show was terrific! There is nothing like Broadway, but Broadway itself.
NYC is wild, crazy, beautiful and lots of fun.
Thursday we stayed at the marina and met with fellow sailor, Tom Krueger.  He spent the day with us reviewing charts from NYC to Florida.  He has done this trip 12 times and is preparing to leave again.  The time he spent with us was also preparing him for his trip.  We noted all his favorite anchorages and he gave us advise for the Jersey shore transit.  We were grateful to Tom for the trip to the grocery store after the chart study.
